Getting the Most Out of Your Shoe Purchase - Fall Boots that Double as Hiking and Winter Boots
Sound too good to be true? Well, that may be the case for the little kids , but for kids wearing size 12 and up, certain winter boots can also be worn as hiking boots. It is even acceptable for the older children in schools, which is often a concern for parents. Younger children usually need to change from an outdoor boot to a different shoe when they go indoors. How they play and wear their shoes is quite a bit different. The older ones have a bit more flexibility and choice when it comes to versatile boots.
Here’s why it makes sense to buy certain brands to justify the cost of a better boot that is dual-purpose, rather than two separate pairs. Both the brands Merrell and Keen, for example, make super-outdoorsy, insulated, waterproof boots which are also great for activities like hiking. When out playing in the snow, this type of boot is extremely protective while playing in inclement weather, but these boots are also great for making the transition indoors. Just make sure when using a hiking boot as a snow boot too, to look at the temperature rating, as it is important to keep the foot warm and dry in cold temperatures. An example may be that a true waterproof hiking boot is rated to hold certain temperatures but may not be as insulated as a true snow boot that can be used in -25 degrees Fahrenheit weather. It is always important to look at what you are purchasing and for what purpose it will be used.
The choice is not one size fits all (so to speak) so you do need to take a look at different brands and styles that suit your child’s needs – and your budget!
